How we handle your information.

What we collect

When you join the mailing list we store your email address, the fact that you consented to hear from us, the date you signed up, and an anonymised fingerprint of your connection used only to prevent automated spam signups. We do not store your name, location or browsing history.

Why we use it

To send you Subtropic news: chapter announcements, programme and artist news, cultural stories and ticket information. Nothing else. We do not send third-party advertising.

Who can see it

Only Subtropic Festival (Pty) Ltd. Mailing list data is stored in a private database that is not readable from this website, and is shared with no one outside the organisation except the service providers required to host the database and deliver email. We never sell or trade your details.

How long we keep it

Until you unsubscribe, or until you ask us to delete it. Once removed, your address is deleted from our records.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send, or by writing to sanele@subtropicfestival.com. You can also ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it entirely.

Cookies and analytics

This site stores a single local preference for your light or dark theme. It sets no advertising cookies and does not track you across other websites.

We keep our own basic counts of how the site is used — which navigation links are clicked, when the FAQ is opened, searched or filtered by topic, which answer links are opened, and when someone joins the mailing list. These counts record the page path, the search term typed into the FAQ, the topic filter selected, the answer that was linked to, and the domain that referred you. They contain no names, no email addresses, no IP addresses and no identifiers that could be traced back to you.
